Huawei demotes employees for tweeting from an iPhone

They both received a $730 fine and a single-level demotion

Huawei has fined and demoted the two employees responsible for tweeting the brand’s New Year message from an iPhone, after initially blaming the mistake on an oversees social media agency, reports Bloomberg.

The employees behind the blunder, one of which was head of Huawei’s digital marketing team, both received a CNY 5,000 (~$730) fine and a single-level demotion, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg News.

Employees must now “tighten management of suppliers and partners,” Huawei said in its memo. “The incident exposed flaws in our processes and management.”
