The Huawei P30 Pro has retained a feature that most manufacturers, including Samsung, have scrapped from their devices in recent months: the IR Blaster. And truth be told, we couldn’t be happier about it.
Having the option to control the bulk of the devices in your household — an AC or TV, for example — using your smartphone is invaluable and fits right into the idealised world Huawei envisages wherein your phone is your key to everything.
I can’t stress how convenient being able to walk into a room and turn on an AC unit, like a Dyson Pure Cool Tower Fan; a TV and a set-top box without having to fumble around with three different remotes is — it can all be done using your handset.
For that reason, we’d recommend trailing Huawei’s Smart Remote feature if you’re fortunate enough to have your hands on a Huawei P30 Pro. It’ll change the way you interact with tech around your home… for the better.
IR Blaster won’t be going anywhere anytime soon
Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu told Huawei Hub that the firm is exploring every avenue to make your smartphone the centre of everything in your life, starting with turning it into the key for your car, home and office.
Removing the sensor that allows it to control a significant amount of appliances in the middlemost and latter would be a considerable step backwards, so it’s safe to assume that Huawei won’t be scrapping the beloved IR Blaster anytime soon.
With that in mind, we should expect to see an IR blaster on the Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro.
