Despite President Trump agreeing to lift Huawei’s trade ban with the United States, Huawei isn’t sure whether it will be able to bundle Android on its future devices like the Huawei Mate 30 and Huawei P40, CNET has learned. As such, it’s waiting for guidance from the Department of Commerce before committing to use the software.
After cutting all ties to Huawei after Trump’s executive order at the beginning of last month, Google soon decided to revive the relationship on short-term basis, while it applied pressure on the Trump Administration to revoke the trade ban after warning it of the severe losses local companies could face as a result of the order.
Huawei is at a crossroad. It can either come to an arrangement with the United States to benefit from the feature rich version of Android that’s infused with Google Services, including the Play Store, and be at the mercy of the Trump Administration, or it could push on with the release of its own OS and remain in complete control.
