Here’s a fun fact: Sony manufactures the four sensors that make up the rear-facing camera on the Huawei P30 Pro. It isn’t the brains behind the operation, though — it churns out the sensors by following a set of blueprints provided by Huawei.
Regardless, Sony slaps its CMOS branding on the image sensors before bundling them up and shipping them out, leading us to question whether it did play some form of role in the development processor that Huawei is keeping quiet about.
After all, Huawei stressed the fact that Leica co-engineered the camera on the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro when they launched, but it’s strangely refrained from mentioning the German imaging titan’s involvement this time around.
We’ve reached out to Huawei to seek clarification on both Leica and Sony’s involvement in the development and production of the camera on the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro and will update the article if/when we hear back.
