Samsung says Huawei won’t be the largest smartphone manufacturer

It’s aiming to lead the market for another decade

It’s no secret that Huawei is aiming to be the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world by the time 2021 swings around, but current market leader Samsung doesn’t think that will be the case, with Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh claiming that it will remain the top dog in the smartphone market for the next decade.

“Samsung has been a leader in the smartphone market for ten years and will remain so for the next ten years by continuing to innovate and imagine new mobile experiences.”


Given Huawei’s recent success, however, Koh’s statement could serve as acknowledgement that Samsung now sees the firm as an immediate threat; it turned over a staggering $107.13 billion, of which $8.8 billion was profit, in 2018 and overtook Apple for the second spot, leaving market leader Samsung in its cross hairs.
